One of the commenters may have one point: some fare is needed on the transit system, so the homeless don’t camp out on transit, and so teens don’t ride on transit to be rowdy. BTW, why does the commenter oppose “Taxing the rich”? Is that person one of the rich? I suspect that person probably has no problems with Elon Musk getting a Trillion Dollar pay package. (If he wants to be a hero to NYC subway riders, maybe he can take some of that money and donate it to the MTA, on the provision that it be used to build out the long-awaited 2nd Avenue Subway.)
