  1. The main reason fuel prices vary among states is because of the different tax rates imposed on energy products by each individual state. Proximity to refineries and delivery methods also play into the price equation but state taxes are the main add-on to the price per gallon. Typically, Democrat-run states impose higher tax rates because of their liberal policies (it’s not their money, so they don’t care). Overall, more fossil fuel production in the U.S. will increase supply which, under the free-market system, will lower prices for the consumer….hopefully.
